The diencephalon consists of structures that are on either side of the third ventricle.

The diencephalon serves as the main processing center for information destined to reach the cerebral cortex from the ascending pathways.

They are the thalamus, the hypothalamus, the epithalamus and the subthalamus.

They are involved in regulating things like the body’s sensory perception, motor functions, and hormones. The diencephalon is part of the limbic system.
